Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies on mobile phones across all 44 local government areas of the state, saying the move is aimed at protecting public morality and shielding young people from harmful content.

Gatekeepers News reports that the board’s Deputy Commander General, Mujahid Aminuddeen, said the decision followed complaints that operators of the business, popularly known as “downloading”, were distributing films and videos that negatively influence children and young people. He added that investigations revealed that some operators also circulated pornographic materials and other content considered contrary to Islamic teachings, cultural values and public morality.

According to Aminuddeen, the ban is intended to curb the spread of content deemed offensive to religion and societal values. He advised those engaged in the business to seek lawful alternative sources of income instead of continuing with the now-prohibited activity.

The Hisbah Board said enforcement has already begun, with personnel deployed across Kano to monitor compliance through routine patrols and other operations. It warned that anyone found violating the directive would face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State.
