Chelsea Seal £117m Deal For Morgan Rogers

Chelsea have completed a £117 million deal to sign England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, with the transfer set to make the 23-year-old the most expensive English footballer in history and the biggest signing in the club’s history.

Gatekeepers News reports that the transfer surpasses Chelsea’s previous club-record fee of £115 million paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023. Rogers is expected to sign a six-year contract, with an option for an additional year, after completing a medical following England’s FIFA World Cup campaign.

Chelsea moved swiftly to secure the attacking midfielder despite strong interest from Arsenal, who had identified Rogers as one of their priority targets. Reports said new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso played a key role in convincing the player to join the Stamford Bridge club as it continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.

Rogers enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season with Aston Villa, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 55 appearances across all competitions. He also helped the club win the UEFA Europa League and impressed for England at the FIFA World Cup. Villa, who signed Rogers from Middlesbrough in 2024 for about £15 million, are set to make a significant profit from the transfer, while Middlesbrough will also benefit through a sell-on clause. (
