One person has died following multiple road accidents that caused a major traffic gridlock along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded for hours on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
Gatekeepers News reports that the crashes occurred around the Kara Bridge axis, where emergency responders launched recovery operations that required temporary restrictions on vehicular movement.
The resulting congestion stretched from the Kara Bridge area to New Garage and beyond, severely affecting motorists travelling from Lagos towards Ogun State. Inbound traffic into Lagos, however, remained largely unaffected.
According to reports, one of the accidents involved a heavily loaded truck that overturned after crashing into the side rail of the bridge. Preliminary findings indicated that overloading caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
While the driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, another accident along the corridor claimed one life, prompting an extensive rescue and recovery operation.
Traffic management officials and emergency responders worked to evacuate the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow. Authorities urged motorists to remain patient, obey traffic officials, and exercise caution while travelling along the expressway, noting that recovery efforts were necessary to prevent further accidents.
