President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) responsible for managing the sale, lease and privatisation of federal government landed properties, transferring its responsibilities to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
Gatekeepers News reports that the decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the committee’s functions would now be coordinated by the Attorney-General with effect from November 5, 2025.
According to the statement, the committee was created in 2000 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to implement the Federal Government’s monetisation policy by overseeing the disposal and management of government-owned landed assets.
The committee was chaired by the Minister of Housing and included representatives from the Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health and Agriculture, as well as the Nigeria Police Force. Professor P.T. Ahire, then a deputy director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, served as its pioneer secretary.
The Presidency said the committee had gradually moved beyond the responsibilities for which it was established, leading to numerous legal disputes across the country.
It noted that after reviewing the committee’s operations, the Federal Government concluded that there was no longer any justification for its continued existence.
As part of the directive, the committee’s secretary, B.S. Dutsin-Ma, has also been instructed to immediately stop acting on behalf of both the dissolved committee and the Federal Government on all matters relating to its former responsibilities.
