Abia State Governor Alex Otti has paid N25 million towards the medical treatment of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu, fulfilling his promise to support the cost of her surgeries.
Gatekeepers News reports that the 62-year-old actress recently appealed for public assistance after disclosing that she was battling an undisclosed health condition requiring three surgical procedures. She said she needed N30 million to cover the total cost of the operations.
The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, J Martins, announced the development in a post on X, confirming that the payment had been made directly to the hospital where the actress is receiving treatment.
“Payment made to the hospital. Yesterday before the close of work, His Excellency @alexottiofr our pragmatic leader made good his promise, directing a 25M payment to the hospital’s account where our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs Ngozi Nwosu is receiving treatment,” the post read.
“We thank you immensely for your support and kindness of heart sir. History will be kind to you.”
The governor’s intervention covers the bulk of the N30 million required for Nwosu’s treatment, leaving a balance of N5 million.
The donation comes against the backdrop of the actress’s previously strained relationship with the Abia State Government.
In 2024, Nwosu said she would no longer render free services to the state, citing what she described as the government’s failure to support her during an earlier health challenge in 2012.
Her latest appeal for financial assistance prompted renewed calls for support from fans, colleagues and well-wishers before Governor Otti stepped in with the donation.
