Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday joined top government officials, traditional rulers and hundreds of mourners at the funeral prayer of the Sardaunan Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, who died earlier in the day after a prolonged illness.
Gatekeepers News reports that the funeral prayer was held at the Sultan Muhammad Bello Juma’at Mosque in Sokoto and was led by the Chief Imam of the mosque, Malam Bello Akwara.
Among those in attendance were the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir; former Governor of the state, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III; former and serving ministers, senior government officials, traditional rulers and other sympathisers.
Following the prayer, Shettima and the Deputy Governor paid a condolence visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, where they described the death of the late Sardaunan Sokoto as a huge loss to Sokoto State and the nation.
They said the deceased would be remembered for his outstanding service to Nigeria and his contributions to national development and the traditional institution.
The leaders also prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the late statesman, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, the people of Sokoto State and Nigerians the strength to bear the loss.
