Afrobeats star Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has revealed that she recently underwent major surgery and is taking a temporary break from public activities to focus on her recovery.
Gatekeepers News reports that the singer shared the update via her Instagram Story on Thursday after fans expressed concern over her reduced activity on social media.
According to Ayra Starr, she had anticipated a swift recovery, but the healing process has taken longer than expected because the procedure proved more complicated than initially anticipated by her doctors.
Apologising to her fanbase, whom she affectionately calls Mobstarrs, the singer assured them that she would return once she had recovered.
“Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like. I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected.
“I just need a bit of rest, and I’ll be back!!! Starrgirl is coming so soooon. I need everyone out there spreading the word, tell your friends, your family, your neighbours!!! Order Starrgirl ASAP!!!
“Love you guys.”
The award-winning artiste did not disclose the nature of the surgery or the medical condition that necessitated the procedure.
Despite taking time off to recover, Ayra Starr continued promoting her forthcoming project, Starrgirl, urging fans to support its release.
In a separate Instagram update, she announced that she had personally signed copies of the vinyl edition and CD inserts for the project.
“Hey Mobstarrs. I’m signing my first vinyl and CD inserts. Go to shop.ayrastarr.com. Go get your vinyl and your signed CDs,” she wrote.
Her message reassured fans who had become concerned about her recent absence from social media.
The update comes at a significant point in the singer’s career as she prepares for the release of Starrgirl while also expanding into acting.
Fans recently caught their first glimpse of Ayra Starr’s acting debut after the release of the official trailer for the Hollywood fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone.
The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Damson Idris, veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, and Ayra Starr.
The role marks a major milestone for the singer, who has gained global recognition through her music and is now broadening her career into film.
