A joint military task force has rescued a senior Nigerian Army officer, Lt. Col. Ofor Amobi, and a civilian, Ikechukwu Onwuanra, after a 10-day search-and-rescue operation across forests and surrounding communities in Enugu State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victims were found in the early hours of Friday after troops intensified operations in the area where they were reportedly abandoned by their abductors.
The rescue mission involved personnel from the 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion (Rear), the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, and the 197 Special Forces Battalion, operating under the leadership of the Commander of the 82 Division Garrison with air support from the Nigerian Air Force.
According to security sources, the kidnappers fled after coming under sustained military pressure, leaving the army officer and the civilian behind in a forest. Both victims were successfully recovered and evacuated to a secure location, where they received medical attention before being reunited with their families.
Military authorities described the operation as a major success, reaffirming their commitment to tracking down criminal groups and ensuring the safety of residents.
They also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security operations across the country.
