The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nollywood actress Tope Osoba, who passed away at the age of 40 after battling breast cancer.
Gatekeepers News reports that the news of her death was announced on Wednesday by her colleague, actress Foluke Daramola-Salako, in an emotional Instagram post. She wrote the caption “She’s gone tope is gone, my baby is gone. Ha ha ha iku doro”.
Osoba’s health challenges became public in November 2024, when she appealed for financial support after undergoing her first breast cancer surgery. At the time, Daramola revealed that the actress required a second operation to remove the remaining cancerous particles, with the procedure estimated to cost about ₦12 million. Osoba later expressed gratitude to donors and supporters who contributed to her treatment while appealing for further assistance.
Following news of her passing, colleagues and fans flooded social media with tributes, remembering the actress for her talent, resilience and determination throughout her battle with cancer. The entertainment industry has continued to mourn her loss, with many describing her death as a painful blow to Nollywood.
