Troops of Sector 8 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have foiled a suspected bandit attack on Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred at about 2:10 p.m. on Friday after security personnel received information about armed men moving from the mountain ranges towards the community.
According to Zagazola Makama, the suspected bandits were dressed in black outfits and red berets and were moving with cattle.
Following the report, troops stationed at Manja Forest moved towards the area and made contact with the group.
The intervention forced the armed men to retreat into the bushes with their cattle.
Troops, working alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), subsequently maintained a presence in the area and continued monitoring the community to prevent further attacks.
In a separate incident, troops of Sector 3 OPEP repelled an attack by suspected militia members on Ariri community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after troops responded to a distress call.
The military intervention forced the attackers to flee the area.
During a subsequent search of the community, troops recovered the body of a man identified as Maianguwa Ishe.
Another victim, Joseph Ezekiel, was found with gunshot wounds sustained during the attack and was evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The latest incidents highlight the continued security challenges confronting communities in Plateau State, while troops maintain operations to prevent further attacks and protect residents.
