Troops of Nigerian Army have rescued a woman and her two children who were abducted by terrorists in Borno State in 2017, after nearly nine years in captivity.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victims were rescued during a perimeter clearance patrol around Amuda Bridge in Borno State by troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion operating under Operations HADIN KAI and DESERT SANITY V.
According to reports, the troops intercepted the woman and her children at about 6:30am on Friday, August 14, 2026, during the patrol.
The rescued woman was identified as 25-year-old Rukaya Mohammed, while her children were identified as six-year-old Hauwa Mustapha and four-year-old Fati Mustapha. The trio had reportedly spent about nine years under terrorist captivity.
Reports said the woman was abducted in 2017 and was subsequently forced into a child marriage while in captivity. She later had two children during her time with the terrorists.
The rescue forms part of ongoing military operations aimed at clearing terrorist enclaves and restoring security across communities in Borno State. The military has continued to conduct clearance and patrol operations under Operation HADIN KAI, targeting terrorist networks and rescuing civilians held in captivity.
The latest operation highlights the continued efforts by Nigerian security forces to locate and recover victims of long-term abductions in the North-East, where insurgent groups have carried out attacks and kidnappings for more than a decade.
