The Borno State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced the escape of an inmate from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued in Maiduguri, the command’s Public Relations Officer, AB Thliza, said the escapee’s name appeared as “JOHN ISEARL” on the prison uniform shown in an accompanying image.
Thliza urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide any useful information that could assist authorities in locating the fugitive or identifying anyone reasonably suspected to be the escaped inmate.
He advised members of the public to immediately report credible information to the nearest police station, Nigeria Correctional Service facility or any other relevant security agency.
“For further urgent information, please call on 0806 044 836, 0806 211 0090 and 0806 277 6875,” he said.
The NCoS spokesperson strongly advised members of the public not to attempt to arrest or apprehend the individual.
“All reports should be channeled through the appropriate security authorities,” Thliza said.
He added, “Your cooperation is crucial to ensuring public safety.”
