President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday met with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting, held under the aegis of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), followed an earlier session of the National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The engagement was held behind closed doors, and the agenda was not immediately made public as of the time of filing the reports.
The meeting comes days after the APC unveiled its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election. Former Zamfara State Governor and serving senator Abdulaziz Yari was appointed as the council’s Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary.
President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima were named chairman and vice-chairman of the campaign council, while APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda was also listed as a vice-chairman.
The meeting also comes eight days after campaigns officially commenced for the 2027 general elections, according to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The ruling party is simultaneously strengthening its internal mobilisation ahead of the election. The APC has announced that its electronic membership registration exercise will resume nationwide on August 31.
The meeting is therefore taking place at a critical period for the APC, as the party begins coordinating its campaign structure and mobilisation across the states. However, there was no official indication of the specific issues discussed by Tinubu and the governors at the time of reporting.
The Presidency had also clarified earlier that the recently released campaign council list remains valid, although adjustments could still be made as the campaign structure is completed.
