All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won all 21 chairmanship seats in the Anambra State local government elections held on Saturday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the results were announced on Sunday by Genevieve Osakwe, chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), at the commission’s headquarters in Awka, the state capital.
Osakwe also announced that APGA candidates won the councillorship positions across the state’s 21 local government areas and 362 electoral wards.
She said the commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure there were no errors, adding that the results had already been announced at the respective polling units on Saturday.
According to her, the election was conducted peacefully and in accordance with Anambra’s electoral laws and guidelines.
APGA was the only party that fielded candidates in 20 of the 21 local government areas, while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) presented a chairmanship candidate only in Anambra East.
In Anambra East, APGA’s Ifeanyi Chinweze secured 50,169 votes to defeat the YPP candidate, who polled 1,658 votes.
Osakwe said the election was free, fair, transparent and credible, while commending residents for participating in the exercise and security agencies for maintaining peace.
The outcome gives APGA control of all 21 local government councils in the state.
