Security forces have rescued 10 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State.
Gatekeepers News reports that Kogi State Police Command confirmed the rescue on Monday, saying the corps members were among passengers abducted last Wednesday along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area.
The corps members were travelling from the NYSC orientation camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State when armed men reportedly attacked their vehicles around Ogene Zaria, near the Ogene Zaria/Onicha-Igo Junction.
According to the police, the latest rescue was achieved through a coordinated operation involving the police, military and Department of State Services (DSS).
The command said the operation was “coordinated, sustained, and intelligence-driven,” adding that security forces were working to secure the remaining abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The police had earlier announced the rescue of 11 abducted victims, including the drivers of the two buses attacked along the highway. Most of those rescued were identified as NYSC members travelling from Bayelsa to Abuja.
The command said the operation remains ongoing, with security personnel intensifying efforts to locate and safely recover other victims still in captivity.
The development comes amid conflicting reports about the total number of NYSC members abducted and subsequently rescued. President Bola Tinubu later said 21 Nigerians, including 15 NYSC members, had been rescued in the operation.
