President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Paris, France, for Nigeria after concluding his extended working vacation in Europe.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Presidency disclosed this in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Tuesday. Tinubu’s aircraft is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later in the day.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for London, where he spent about a week before travelling to Paris. His stay abroad, initially expected to last about three weeks, was extended by several days.
During his time in Paris, the President held engagements with French President Emmanuel Macron and business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group. He also met with businessman Femi Otedola on Monday.
The Presidency also highlighted Tinubu’s involvement in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of the Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside and a Blue Marine Economic Zone. The proposed project is expected to attract $7 billion in investment.
While Tinubu was away, Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented him at some official engagements, including the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Presidency had said Tinubu remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued directing government affairs remotely.
Tinubu is returning through Lagos, where he is expected to attend activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. The Presidency said he will attend the premiere of a movie honouring the late MKO Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, on October 1.
The President is also expected to hold meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos before returning to Abuja.
