Nigerian singer Mayorkun has revealed that he intends to conduct a DNA test before accepting a child as his own.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Afrobeats star made the disclosure during a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, where he said he had informed his girlfriend that he wanted them to sign a prenuptial agreement before marriage and conduct a DNA test whenever she gives birth.
Mayorkun, 32, said his girlfriend was unhappy with the proposal but maintained that he would proceed with the plan.
“I told my girlfriend we’d have to do a prenup and DNA test when she gives me a child, just to be sure. She got upset,” he said.
“I have thought of doing the DNA test without telling her. If it is my child, no issues. If not, everybody will hear about it.”
Mayorkun, whose real name is Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, rose to prominence in 2016 after releasing his debut single, Eleko, produced by Puffy Tee.
He signed with Davido’s DMW record label that same year and remained with the label until 2021. During his time with DMW, he released his debut studio album, The Mayor of Lagos, in November 2018.
After leaving the label, Mayorkun released his second studio album, Back In Office, in October 2021 under Sony Music West Africa.
The singer has received several awards and nominations throughout his career.
