FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda, have held a four-hour closed-door meeting in Port Harcourt as efforts to deepen reconciliation between their political camps continue.
Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting, held on Tuesday at Fubara’s residence in Port Harcourt, brought together Wike and Chinda, alongside their supporters, and the Governor and members of his political camp.
Wike and Chinda arrived at the governor’s residence at about 4pm and joined Fubara and his supporters for the discussions.
The meeting ended at about 8pm, but none of the participants addressed journalists afterwards.
Neither Wike, Chinda and their supporters nor Fubara and his team disclosed details of the discussions or announced any specific agreement reached.
The meeting is the first known occasion on which Fubara personally hosted or participated in a reconciliation gathering involving his supporters and members of the opposing camp.
The latest engagement follows years of political disagreements between Fubara and political actors loyal to Wike, including members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The dispute escalated in March 2025 when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and suspended Fubara, his deputy and members of the state assembly. The emergency rule was lifted in September 2025, allowing the Governor and lawmakers to return to office.
Since then, efforts have been made to rebuild relations between the rival camps. Wike had previously said Fubara had returned to the political family that produced him as Governor.
“He has publicly stated that he has returned to where he started, and we receive him with an open mind,” Wike said.
“There is nothing to hide. We will all work together to ensure that we deliver the votes President Tinubu needs for his re-election.”
