CJN Swears In 68 New Senior Advocates Of Nigeria

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has sworn in 68 lawyers as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) at a ceremony held at the Supreme Court on Monday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the ceremony formed part of activities marking the commencement of the court’s new legal year.

The SAN rank is conferred on legal practitioners who have distinguished themselves through exceptional advocacy in court or significant contributions to legal scholarship as academics.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kekere-Ekun congratulated the new senior advocates and reminded them that the prestigious rank came with increased professional and ethical responsibilities.

“The rank you receive today is a distinction of great honour and carries a corresponding responsibility,” she said.

“The Inner Bar is not merely a recognition of professional success; it is a call to leadership. You will now be looked upon not only for the quality of your advocacy but also for the example you set to younger members of the profession. Carry the rank with dignity, humility and a deep sense of responsibility.”

Of the 68 new SANs, 67 were appointed as advocates, while Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri was the sole academic appointee.
