One hundred and fifty-four students of Government Science Secondary School, Batagarawa, in Katsina State, were hospitalized after reportedly developing adverse reactions to medication administered for bilharzia.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Monday, October 26, following the administration of praziquantel tablets to the students as part of a treatment programme for bilharzia, also known as schistosomiasis, a parasitic disease.

According to a report by TheCable, the Katsina State Police Command said the affected students were taken to hospitals for medical attention after developing symptoms following the administration of the medication.

The police spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the students received medical care, adding that those who had remained in hospital for further treatment were also discharged.

The police said all 154 students had recovered and were in good health, dismissing reports alleging that deaths had occurred during the incident.

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended residents for their cooperation and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information about the incident.
