Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry following an alert from Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Gatekeepers News reports that the suspects, identified as Umeh Thankgod, 32, and Sunday Ozor, 24, were arrested on October 28 at the Old Spare Parts Market, Mgbuka, Obosi.
The police said the arrests followed an alert from FRSC operatives in Awka, who detected irregularities in the vehicle’s registration details during a routine verification exercise.
According to the command, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) acted on the information and arrested the two men, recovering the blue Toyota Camry.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen on September 29 from the residence of a 90-year-old retired professor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in Enugu State.
The police said the victim was contacted after the recovery and positively identified the vehicle as his property.
The victim reportedly alleged that the vehicle was stolen from his compound with the assistance of his gateman, identified as Bassey Etim, who is currently at large.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and establish the circumstances surrounding the theft.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the FRSC personnel for their vigilance and prompt response, stressing the importance of collaboration among security agencies in tackling crime.
He also urged members of the public to provide timely information to security agencies to support crime prevention and the recovery of stolen property.
