After an eventful year of 2021, there’s a need for workers, students, professionals and others to unwind and prepare thier minds for the new year.
The popular social media and street parlance “#Detty December” is used to mean spending December in a vivacious way.
Many people from all walks of life look to unwind after a long year of hard work, it is not surprising that some of the country’s popular acts set machinery in motion to shut the city with concerts, shows and performances that would signal the end of the year for them.
Lagos streets will be filled with carnivals with different local artistes, and acts displaying their skills.
While there’s going to be a limitation in the number of concerts and carnivals because of the advent of the Covid-19, there’s always a way to relax after a long year.
Here’s how to plan the #Detty December
1. Run Through The Year: In enjoying the #Detty December, there’s a need to take a recap of the different activities one has been engaged in the year 2021: the good, the bad and the ugly, set expectations for the new year 2022 and prepare a budget for the #Detty December.
2. Reunite With Loved Ones: No country prepares for #Detty December or see it as an avenue for a family hangout like Nigeria. During the month, take your time to visit your loved ones, if you’re married, take your family out, if you’re not married, take your fiance or your girlfriend out within your budget, you might have been busy throughout the year to meet up with old friends, cousins, family members and your parents, take your time to visit them too.
3. Have Fun: The whole idea of the #Detty December is to have fun and unwind after the whole year, attend concerts, carnivals, family hangouts, reunions, anyway just have fun, you can also visit the beach, travel out of the state to have a feel of other states etc.
4. Save For January: As much as there’s a need to Detty the December, it’s often said that January has two months in it; “January Pro” and “January Pro Max”, salary will be paid earlier for salary earners, so January will be a long month if all money is spent on “Dettying” the December, you should save for the new year. Plan your way to the end; Hangout, concerts, Reunion, Boat cruise etc should all be within your budget.
5. Avoid Contracting Covid-19: Taking the vaccine does not necessarily mean you can’t contract the virus, it just means that you’re safer and a stronger immune system to fight the virus, while having fun, social distance or use your face mask, your sanitizer must always be with you, it will be a disservice to you to resume work in January and be on sickbed.
