Newly appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has issued a stern warning that houses constructed in unauthorized locations in Abuja will be subject to demolition, even if owned by ministers or ambassadors.
Gatekeepers News reports that the former governor of Rivers State, conveyed this message during a press briefing on Monday, shortly after he and 44 other ministers were inaugurated in Abuja, following their appointments by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike emphasized that the decision to demolish structures situated illegally in Abuja, which disrupt the city’s master plan, will be irrespective of the occupant’s status.
Wike said, “All those people who are distorting the masterplan of Abuja, too bad. If you know you have built where you are not supposed to build, it will go down.
“Be you a minister of anywhere, be you an ambassador, if you know you have developed where you were not supposed to develop, your house must go down.
“Those who have taken over the green areas to build, sorry, our parks must come back. The green areas must come back. If you hate green, you must hate yourself,” Wike said.
When questioned if the demolition warning is a targeted effort against his adversaries, the FCT minister clarified that his objective is to restore the capital territory to its previous state, and not to pursue a witch-hunt against anyone.
“Say the truth, you don’t like those who step on toes. I will step on toes.
“The big and mighty, I will step on them. If you are doing what is wrong, I will do what I am supposed to do,” he said.
