In its bid to prevent any form of attacks on Post Primary and Tertiary Institutions across Borno State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Yusufu has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPO) to provide round-the-clock security for all vulnerable schools in the State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Borno Police Command specifically charged all DPOs to conduct a thorough assessment of schools in their domain to provide adequate security under its Safer Schools Programme.
For schools that are not considered vulnerable based on assessments by the Police and School Management, periodic security tips will be given to the school authorities, says CP Yusufu.

The CP who spoke during a press conference on Monday of the achievements of the Commamd in the last three months disclosed that this measure is being put in place pending the arrival of the deployment of technology to further secure all schools as promised by the Inspector General Of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
He said: “I have directed all the DPOs to be school-friendly DPOs and they should all visit post-primary and tertiary institutions within their jurisdiction and interact with school officials, assess security arrangements in such schools, and provide advice.
“But where we have highly vulnerable schools, security should be placed there round the clock. I have given the DPOs that marching order,” the Commissioner of Police said.

CP Yusufu added that questionnaires have since been sent out by the Borno Police Command to all public and private schools where information on security, school enrolment, perimeter fencing, boarding or day school amongst others will be collected for adequate security planning.
Meanwhile, the Borno Police Command also announced the arrest of over 500 suspected criminals ranging from culpable homicide, theft, rape, and vandalisation amongst others.
“The purpose is to report the key performance indicators of the command recorded in the last three months and re-assure the public of our commitments to tackling crimes, criminality and other manifestations of social vices in Borno state, particularly Maiduguri metropolis and its environs.” CP Yusufu said.
