United States President Donald Trump has thanked FIFA after the world football governing body suspended the automatic one-match ban imposed on USA forward Folarin Balogun following his red card at the FIFA World Cup.
Gatekeepers News reports that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee suspended the sanction, overturning the automatic suspension that would have ruled Balogun out of the United States’ Round of 16 clash against Belgium.
The decision means the striker is now eligible to feature in Monday’s knockout fixture after being sent off during the USA’s 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32.
Reacting to the ruling, Trump welcomed FIFA’s decision, describing it as the right outcome for both the player and the U.S. national team ahead of their crucial World Cup encounter.
The suspension of Balogun’s ban has sparked widespread debate within the football community, with critics questioning the precedent set by FIFA’s intervention in the disciplinary process.
