Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu has revealed that Nigeria is currently providing shelter and protection to approximately 100,000 refugees and over 8.5 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Gatekeepers News reports that while speaking at the Global Refugees Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Edu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to supporting refugees, IDPs, returnees, and host communities in national development plans.
“As a country, we’ve opened our hearts and borders to provide international protection to those in desperate need,” she emphasized.
She highlighted the challenges refugees face and outlined Nigeria’s efforts to provide international protection and address the causes of displacement.
Dr. Betta Edu stated, “Nigeria is currently hosting and safeguarding around 100,000 refugees, alongside over 8,500,000 IDPs.”
Nigeria pledged financial, material, and technical support, affirming the nation’s dedication to collaborating for long-term solutions benefiting millions of displaced people worldwide.
