There is no plan to take over Dangote Refinery, Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has declared, stressing that it has no business with the group.
Gatekeepers News reports that on Tuesday, some media platforms (Gatekeepers News not included), speculated that AMCON could take over the refinery of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, over the $7 billion debt the group is owing commercial banks in Nigeria.
AMCON however debunk the reports, clarifying that neither Dangote Refinery nor the Dangote Group is on its debtors’ list.
According to AMCON’s Head of Corporate Communications, Jude Nwauzor, the rumour that the Corporation was taking the properties of Dangote Refinery or Dangote Group was false because it is not on its debtors’ list.
The report was equally described as “false and malicious” by multiple sources in the Dangote Group, who noted that the group has the capacity to service and pay its debt as they fall due.
Gatekeepers News reports that in 2010, AMCON purchased 12,743 bad loans worth N3.8 trillion from 22 Eligible Financial Institutions (EFIs) for a purchase price of N1.8 trillion.
The Corporation noted that Dangote Oil Refineries was not part of the bad debts that it took over, hence, it can’t take over the company’s assets.
