President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated UN Secretary General, António Guterres, and his Deputy, Amina Mohammed.

Gatekeepers News reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated UN Secretary General, António Guterres and his Deputy, Amina Mohammed on their reappointment for a second term by the UN General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council.

President Buhari’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Saturday.

Buhari said Guterres’ reappointment of Nigerian Amina Mohammed as his deputy is “an action that says a bit more about his leadership qualities and his commitment on Environment, gender, and other global issues.”

He, therefore, hailed the duo for their global recognition and opportunity to serve humanity with their experience.

President Buhari added that he believes that “their passion to promote peace, alleviate poverty, improve health and empower more people will gain more speed and results.”

According to him the reappointment of Mohammed who was a former Minister of Environment in Nigeria will further encourage more women and the girl-child, particularly in Africa and Nigeria.

He added that her extension in office will make the female gender aspire to new heights of leadership, dream beyond the borders of their country and learn from her dedication to seeing lives transformed for the better.

President Buhari, therefore, commended the former minister for her contributions to development, at home and abroad.

The President prayed that the Almighty God will grant her good health, strength, and more wisdom for the journey ahead.
