Insecurity: Matawalle Orders Reopening Of Weekly Markets 

Governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle has ordered the reopening of weekly markets in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Zamfara State Governor, Northwest Nigeria, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has directed the reopening of some major weekly markets in the State.

The markets were closed some months ago due to terror attacks.

Matawalle noted that the ban on the sale of animals in those markets remained.

This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Commissioner for information and Culture, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara.

Dosara said the reopening of those markets came as a result of the improvement in the security of lives and properties and series of requests by members of the public.

He noted that the state government had warned against any act of violations of law and order in the markets.

He further warned that nobody should carry any weapon in the market or attack anybody in the name of vigilante group.

The statement read in part, “Following reports of security situations in some areas of the state, and requests by residents of the State for the reopening of some weekly markets, the State government, therefore, deemed it necessary and approved the reopening of some weekly markets, beginning from Monday, November 1st, 2021.

“These markets are: Nassarawa Burkullu in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Talata-Mafara market in Talata-mafara Local Government Area, Gusau market in Gusau Local Government Area and Shinkafi market in Shinkafi Local Government Area of the state.

“Others include Kasuwar Daji in Kaura-namoda Local Government Area, Nassarawar Godel in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area and Danjibga market in Tsafe Local Government Area.

“The State government has seriously warned that people should not be seen carrying any weapon into the markets.

“No person should be seen attacking or threatening any body in the name of whatever group or organisations.

“Security agencies have, therefore, been directed to ensure total compliance to the orders.

“The Task Force committee should ensure total implementation of the executive order and ensure compliance and guard against breach of the executive order.”

The statement added that the reopening of the markets was on temporary basis, pointing out that the government would not hesitate to close them down once again any market is found to be violating the order.
