JUST IN: Senate Rejects Clause Moving VAT To Exclusive Legislative List

Senate Summons Minister Over Nigerian Students Stranded Abroad

The Nigerian Senate has rejected the clause seeking to make Value Added Tax an item on the Executive Legislative List.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Senate rejected the clause during the constitution amendment plenary session.

The Bill seeks to Alter Part I of the Second Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to include Value Added Tax on the Exclusive Legislative List; and for Related Matters.

41 Senators voted in support while 44 Senators voted against it.

 

The Bill failed.
