Cristiano Ronaldo has broken the FIFA record for the most goals in competitive matches in football history and scored the 59th hat-trick of his career.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Portuguese superstar netted a hat-trick to help Manchester United defeat Tottenham Hotspurs 3-2 in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
Ronaldo’s latest hat-trick which is the 59th of his glistening career scaled the Reds to the fourth position following a demoralising derby loss to Man City last weekend.
The Saturday night’s hat-trick sees the five-time Ballon d’Or winner accumulate 807 career goals.
This record surpassed the long-standing record of 805 goals previously held by Josef Bican’s of Czechoslovakia.
CR7 netted the opening goal of the night in the 12th minute after a well-taken long-range strike from outside the area that nestled into the top corner.
In the 38th minute, the 37-year-old was then on hand to slot home Jadon Sancho’s cross to regain the lead for Man United following Harry Kane’s penalty kick.
However, United’s captain, Harry Maguire committed a blunder in the 72nd minute which led to an own goal bringing the scoreline to 2-2.
In the 81st minute, Ronaldo completed his hat-trick to place United ahead in the game.
The win takes Man United back to fourth place with 50 points from 29 matches. Their length of days at the position is however shaky as their immediate counterparts, Arsenal (5th on the table) have four outstanding games.
Meanwhile, only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has now scored more Premier League goals this season than Ronaldo.
