Ibrahim Gusau Elected As New NFF President 

Ibrahim Musa Gusau has been elected as the New President of the Nigerian Football Federation on Friday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the election at the NFF’s 78th Elective Congress in Benin, Edo State Capital saw Gusau become the 40th President of the Nigeria Football Federation.

The Zamfara-born Football Administrator defeated Nine other contestants to emerge as the successor of Amaju Pinnick.

He polled 21 votes to defeat his closet challenger, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, who got 12. The second runner-up, and League Management Committee Chairman, Shehu Dikko, garnered Six votes and a lone vote for Peterside Idah.

During the election, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, chairman of Enyimba FC, was voted in as the First Vice President of the NFF.

Anyasi-Agwu, who polled 23 votes, defeated Obinna Ogba (8 votes) to replace Seyi Akinwunmi as the number two person of the Association.

Yusuf ‘Fresh’ Ahmed was elected as chairman of chairmen unopposed after securing 37 from 41 votes to become Chairman of Chairmen.

The NFF election had threatened to be one of the most contentious in the history of Nigerian when a group, under the name Nigeria Football Stakeholders, threatened to bomb the Benin City venue of the election, if it was not canceled adding that “blood will flow.” The group accused the Amaju Pinnick-led board of embezzlement and fraud.

Gatekeepers News reported that A ruling by the Court of Appeal on Thursday vacated the order restraining the conduct of the election.

The 10 persons that jostled to succeed Amaju Pinnick as the Association’s President are Seyi Akinwunmi, Mallam Shehu Dikko, as well as Current Executive Committee members, Ibrahim Gusau and Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande.

Others include immediate Past General Secretary, Musa Amadu and Head of Safety and Security of the Confederation of African Football, Christian Emeruwa, Mouktar Mohammed, Former Nigeria International, Peterside Idah, Abba Yola and UK-based David-Buhari Doherty.
