MEVEF Empowers Underprivileged Pupils And Orphans Through Annual Back-to-School Project

Mayasalis Entrepreneurship and Vocational Empowerment Foundation (MEVEF) has successfully held its annual Back-to-School Project for underprivileged pupils and orphans.

Gatekeepers News reports that this year’s initiative, titled “MEVEF BACK TO SCHOOL PROJECT 2023,” commenced at Imiegba Grammar School in Etsako East local government, Edo state.

The project was inspired when Salmat Salisu Musah, popularly known as Mayasalis, the founder and president of MEVEF, learned about Master Jonathan, a teenager living with his aged 90-plus grandmother in Imiegba village. MEVEF has taken full responsibility for covering all of Jonathan’s school fees, from 2023 to 2026, including funds set aside for his future Waec and Neco examinations in 2026. Additionally, MEVEF has committed to providing him with free vocational skills acquisition training immediately after completing his secondary education.

In addition to Master Jonathan, Miss Nabilat Momoh was enrolled to take the 2023 common entrance examination at Al-Mukhtar Primary School in Edo state.

MEVEF’s commitment to sending underprivileged children and orphans back to school led the foundation to Igebo Primary School in Ibienafe, Etsako West local government in Edo state.

There, MEVEF distributed school bags, books, pens, and water bottles to approximately 100 pupils. Furthermore, the foundation donated a first aid kit to the school to assist in handling emergency cases.

MEVEF’s focus on education as an NGO aims to build communities of self-sustainable individuals who will contribute to national prosperity. The annual Back-to-School Project serves as an opportunity to introduce primary school pupils to skills acquisition through CLUB MEVEF, established in beneficiary schools. These clubs instill values, morals, and selflessness while emphasizing the importance of contributing to national growth.

Mayasalis, the CEO of MEVEF, emphasised the critical role of upbringing in shaping a child’s character and their future impact on society. She stressed the importance of teaching children selflessness and good moral standards from an early age to foster good character and instill a sense of responsibility toward humanity and their nation.

Mayasalis concluded her address by echoing the Greek proverb: “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” She urged Nigerians to make sacrifices to ensure Nigeria’s greatness and reaffirmed her commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s progress, emphasising that every Nigerian must put the nation first while striving to achieve a brighter future.
