The Federal Government has announced the extension of Kayode Egbetokun’s tenure as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nigeria. This decision comes as Egbetokun’s initial appointment was set to expire.
Sources within the presidency confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has approved the extension, citing Egbetokun’s satisfactory performance in maintaining law and order across the nation. The exact duration of the extension has not been disclosed.
IGP Egbetokun, who was first appointed on June 19,2023 has overseen several key initiatives during his tenure.
The extension is expected to provide continuity in leadership for the Nigeria Police Force as it faces ongoing challenges such as kidnapping and other crimes.
Police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi had earlier stated, “The IGP is committed to building upon the progress made so far in enhancing the safety and security of all Nigerians.”
This development has been met with mixed reactions from various stakeholders.
The IGP is expected to address the nation in the coming days to outline his plans for this extended tenure.
