The Federal Government will commence repair works on the damaged expansion joints at the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, September 8.
Gatekeepers News reports that Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the development follows an earlier announcement by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The rehabilitation was initially scheduled to begin in August 2026 but was suspended to allow for a review of the proposed traffic management plan following public concerns over the short notice and potential disruption to traffic.
The two-week project, ordered by David Umahi, minister of works, involves replacing deteriorating expansion joints on the busy corridor.
According to the state government, the repairs are aimed at improving road safety, restoring the structural integrity of the bridge and ensuring smoother traffic flow along the corridor.
The rehabilitation is expected to run from September 8 to September 22, 2026.
The Lagos State Government urged motorists using the route to plan their journeys ahead of time and make necessary adjustments to avoid delays.
To reduce the impact of the construction on traffic, the government said one half of the affected section would be closed at a time, while motorists would use the remaining open half interchangeably.
The state government also appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials to ensure the project is completed within the scheduled two-week period.
