Federal high court in Abuja has fixed October 9 to rule on a bail application filed by Tigran Gambaryan, an executive of Binance Holdings Limited, on health grounds.
Gatekeepers News reports that the presiding judge, Emeka Nwite gave the ruling on Wednesday after listening to arguments from Mark Mordi, defence counsel, and Ekele Iheanacho, prosecution counsel, who opposed the freedom bid.
Recall that Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Binance and Tigran Gambaryan over allegations bordering on money laundering.
The court refused Gambaryan’s first bail request on May 17.
The Binance executive collapsed in court on May 23 due to ill-health which made his legal team and family raise alarm that he could die in Kuje prison if his health continued to deteriorate.
Nwite subsequently issued an arrest warrant against Abraham Ehizojie, a medical doctor at the health facility in Kuje correctional centre, on July 30, for failing to produce the executive’s medical report.
EFCC objected to the Binance executive’s health claims after the prosecution counsel filed a counter affidavit to the bail application.
The defense counsel informed the court of another bail application filed on August 28 during the session, seeking the release of his client on medical grounds.
On Tuesday 3 September, Binance pleaded with Nigerian government to release Gambaryan due to his rapidly declining health.
