Austin Eguavoen, Super Eagles interim head coach has said he is still in charge of the team.
Gatekeepers News reports that the coach disclaimed reports of his resignation in a media chat at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja on Wednesday morning.
According to the false reports; Eguavoen said Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) gave him the mandate of leading the team to just the first two games of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Eguavoen said he only discussed “sitting down with the hierarchy of the federation after these two games and we will see how to go about prosecuting the next games”.
He added that he remains the “Technical Director of the NFF, saddled with the responsibility of taking the Super Eagles”.
The coach said, “It’s quite unfortunate that people just trigger something that is not correct. And the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories.”
“I only talked about sitting down with the hierarchy of the federation after these two games and we will see how to go about prosecuting the next games.”
“But when I saw that story, I was worried. Whatever people are reading out there is not correct. I’m still very much in charge. I’m the Technical Director of the NFF, saddled with the responsibility of taking the Super Eagles at this moment.”
The 59-year-old coach was chosen as Eagles’ caretaker coach in August after NFF deal with Bruno Labbadia, German tactician didn’t work out.
