Italy’s World Cup Icon – Schillaci Is Dead

Italian former footballer and top scorer at the 1990 World Cup, Salvatore Schillaci is dead.

Gatekeepers News reports that Schillaci, also known as ‘Toto’, scored six goals, winning the Golden Boot at 1990 World Cup on home soil.

According to Italian media; Schillaci died at Palermo’s Civico Hospital after battling bowel cancer.

One of the Italian clubs he played for, Juventus, which joined in 1989, said: “We immediately fell in love with Toto.”

“His desire, his story, his being so wonderfully passionate, and it showed in every game he played.”

Italian Football Federation announced that all matches played in Italy until the end of the upcoming weekend would observe a “minute of reflection” before kick-off.
