UK Affirms Nigeria As Key Strategic Military Partner In West Africa

United Kingdom (UK) Minister of State for Defence, House of Lords, Lord Vernon Coaker on Wednesday affirmed Nigeria as a very important ally and pledged his country’s continued support to the fight against against insurgency in the North East Region.

Gatekeepers News reports that Lord Coaker stated that the British military will focus on assisting the Nigerian military with training and other support.

The Defence Minister made this known while speaking to reporters during his visit to the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to the Minister “Nigeria is one of our strongest partners here in West Africa, we support them with the regional activities that they have- we support them across the region as well as within Nigeria with the threats they’ve had on the border.

“There’s a strong relationship between our militaries and that’s something we wish to continue and that’s why our Prime Minister sent me here (Nigeria),” Coaker said.
