Nigerian rapper and lawyer, Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz has criticised the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers.
Gatekeepers News reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday night, declared a state of emergency in Rivers over political crisis in the state.
The president also suspended Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state assembly and nominated Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice-admiral, as the administrator of Rivers.
Reacting in a post on X, Falz said President Tinubu had no legal authority to suspend Fubara.
He also questioned justification for the state of emergency, asking if Rivers was at war or threatening existence of the federation.
The rapper posted screenshots of the constitution, highlighting provisions for declaring a state of emergency.
He wrote, “Rivers State, there is absolutely no law that allows a president to suspend a governor. A governor is elected into office and may only be removed by impeachment.”
“Also, is Rivers state at war? Is there ‘actual breakdown of public order’? Is there a threat to the existence of the federation?”
