Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lost public support and would require a miracle to win 2027 election.
Gatekeepers News reports that El-Rufai made the statement while speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time Programme.
According to the former Governor; recent polls conducted by his team reveal that Tinubu’s approval ratings have dropped drastically.
El-Rufai said a staggering 91% disapproval rate was recorded in the south-east and northern regions, while in Lagos, the president’s home state, the disapproval rating stands at 78%.
He added that while Tinubu fares slightly better in parts of the south-west such as Ondo and Ekiti, he still struggles to cross 50% approval threshold anywhere in the region.
The politician said, “We have to ask the people to make up their minds. Do you like what is happening? This is just two years. If your life has gotten better since Tinubu was sworn in, fine, but if not, why not give some other people a chance?”
“We have done some polling in many parts of the country, particularly in the south-east and the north. President Tinubu has a 91 percent disapproval rating. Even in Lagos, he has a 78 percent disapproval rating.”
“This is a scientific poll. In some states in the south-west, such as Ondo and Ekiti, he is doing somewhat better than a 78 percent disapproval rating, but nowhere is he doing better than 50 percent, even in the south-west.”
He described the Tinubu-led government as a failure on multiple fronts, citing a deteriorated economy, a collapsed security architecture, and a lack of clear trade or investment policies.
El-Rufai also raised concerns over transparency, questioning where the increased government revenue is going, given the lack of visible results.
He said, “The guy (Tinubu) is gone; he has performed miserably. The economy has tanked, the security architecture has failed, there are no clear trade, industrial and investment policies, and everything is going wrong.”
“They are raising lots of revenues, but we don’t know where the revenues are going because there are no results.
