Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has denied claims by ex-transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi that both men co-founded African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi described Amaechi’s remarks as baseless, insisting there is no credible evidence such as video footage or reputable media reports to back the assertion.

The rebuttal follows comments Amaechi made during an X Spaces conversation on Saturday, where he recounted that ADC coalition began with him and Fayemi in the house of Nasiru Danu with Salihu Mohammed and others.

Amaechi alleged that the initial meeting, facilitated by Salihu Mohammed, a former APC national vice-chairman (North-West), was intended to reconcile him with Fayemi before evolving into a broader political gathering involving figures like Senator Aminu Tambuwal.

Amaechi further claimed that a committee led by former Cross River governor Liyel Imoke later recommended ADC as the preferred platform after consultations with other parties.

However, Fayemi’s camp rejected the narrative, stressing his continued membership and loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sajoh said, “We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis. Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State. At various public forums in Ekiti and nationwide, he has consistently affirmed his dedication to the APC, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed.”

The statement also highlighted Fayemi’s public endorsement of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re-election as evidence of his loyalty.

It added, “These conversations, however, do not amount to defections or leaving the APC. Dr Fayemi has the courage to pursue his convictions.”

“ If he were to leave the APC, he would make it public and not require a third party to do so. We state again, maybe for the umpteenth time: Dr Fayemi remains a principal member of the APC and is fully behind the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.”
