PENGASSAN Orders Members To Halt Gas Supply To Dangote Refinery

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has instructed its members to stop gas supply to the Dangote refinery.

Gatekeepers News reports that the move follows the refinery’s confirmation that it dismissed some employees as a reorganisation exercise affecting only a small number of staff.

Reacting in a statement on Friday, PENGASSAN accused the refinery of targeting workers for exercising their constitutional right to unionise and demanded that all dismissed Nigerian employees be reinstated.

The union’s general secretary, Lumumba Okugbawa said, “They have gone further on a mission of misinformation and propaganda to justify this illegitimacy rather than engaging meaningfully with us to right the wrong.”

“Consequent to these, you are hereby directed to cut off gas supply to NGIC effective immediately.”

The union further ordered that all crude oil supply valves to the refinery be shut and loading operations for vessels bound for the facility be suspended.

It stated, “NGIC Chairman, ensure that gas supply to the Refinery is cut off effective immediately,” urging chairpersons affected by the directive to report back on compliance.
