Former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Prof. Jerry Gana, has declared that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and return to Aso Rock.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Gana made the statement on Saturday while addressing journalists after the PDP Niger State Congress in Minna.

“In 2015, Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, Jonathan,” he said. “I can confirm that Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as a PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again.”

Gana described the PDP as “truly democratic and grassroots-oriented,” noting that the party remained popular because of its people-centred programmes.

The Niger State congress produced Aliyu Halidu as Chairman, Khadi Kuta as Secretary (returned unopposed), and Mrs. Salome Ndakosu as Woman Leader. In his acceptance speech, Halidu urged members to “join hands in ensuring the return of a people-oriented government in 2027.”

At a separate PDP congress in Yola, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri said the party was undergoing reforms to regain public trust ahead of the next elections.
“We are trying to birth a new PDP where everyone will believe, trust and have confidence in. We are really positioned, and we are ready for 2027,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his comments on the recent terrorist attack in Wagga Mongoro, Madagali Local Council.

In a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, the APC described Atiku’s reaction as “insensitive” and “politically motivated.”
“Atiku once again proved that tragedy, for him, is not a moment of sober reflection, but a stage for cheap politics,” the party said. “Instead of standing with the grieving, he rushed to issue a hollow statement riddled with inaccuracies.”

The party further accused Atiku of remaining silent during previous Boko Haram invasions of Adamawa communities, only to “suddenly find his voice not to unite, but to exploit.”
