Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced the commencement of an extensive technical and commercial evaluation of the nation’s three major refineries located in Warri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a post shared on X on Wednesday, the company explained that the assessment aims to determine whether the facilities should be upgraded or repurposed to achieve greater efficiency and long-term sustainability.
It said, “Ongoing technical and commercial review for comprehensive assessment of all three refineries.”
“To high-grade or repurpose as may be required to ensure optimal performance and sustainability.”
According to NNPC, the next stage of the process will include partnering with reputable international technical equity firms that have a solid record of running refineries to global standards.
The company also plans to finalise all necessary agreements that will facilitate the mobilization for high-grade repairs or full-scale implementation, depending on the outcome of the review.
NNPC emphasised that the exercise aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s energy security and maximize the performance of its assets.
According to the company, the evaluation is aimed at assuring its capacity to meet PIA requirements as the supplier of last resort for petroleum products and to ensure efficient and profitable operation of the refineries.
Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari said the corporation is transforming to operate as a transparent and commercially viable energy entity dedicated to serving Nigerians effectively.
Ojulari, in another post on X, stated that NNPC is filled with determination and has devoted substantial time to conducting a detailed evaluation of the refineries to enhance operational effectiveness.
He said, “We are looking ahead with optimism to ensure our refineries operate effectively. We are dedicating significant time to a detailed review and are eager to implement our insights.”
Ojulari added that the company’s drive is motivated by its dedication to national progress above personal interest. He said, “This very commitment inspires us as we anticipate creating sustainable solutions for our refineries in the near future.”
