Riley Moore, a United States congressman, has said Nigeria and the US are close to agreeing on a new security plan to confront terrorism in the country.
Gatekeepers News reports that Moore, who recently visited Nigeria with other US lawmakers, said talks with Nigerian officials were encouraging and focused on a joint response to security threats.
He shared the update in a post on X, alongside a video from his Fox News interview.
During the visit, Moore said the delegation met people affected by terrorist violence in parts of the country. He said, “What I witnessed during my trip to Nigeria was heartbreaking.”
“I met a woman who witnessed all five of her children murdered in front of her. Another woman lost her husband and two daughters and had her unborn child killed.”
Moore said discussions with the Nigerian government showed progress toward a coordinated plan.
He said, “We did have positive conversations with the Nigerian government, and I believe we are close to a strategic security framework to address both the ISIS and Boko Haram threat in the north-east, as well as the genocide against Christians by the radical Fulani Muslims in the Middle Belt.”
According to him, a report will be submitted to US President Donald Trump on possible ways both countries can work together to improve security and protect lives.
While in Nigeria, Moore visited northern communities with other members of the US Congress, including Mario Díaz-Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, and Juan Ciscomani. The delegation also met with Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s national security adviser, in Abuja.
