Fire Guts 25 Shops At Jos Terminus Market

A late-night fire has destroyed about 25 shops at the Terminus Market in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Tuesday night, with the market secretary, Zakari Sale, confirming on Wednesday that no lives were lost in the fire.

According to Sale, the blaze started between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and prompted an emergency response from both the Federal Fire Service and the Plateau State Fire Service.

He said the firefighters arrived on time and were able to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the busy market.

Sale noted that although several shops were affected, the scale of destruction was lower than what had been experienced during past fire incidents at the market. He did not, however, disclose the monetary value of goods and property lost in the incident.

Terminus Market, one of the largest commercial centres in Plateau State, has witnessed several fire outbreaks in previous years, often linked to electrical faults and poor storage practices, though no official cause has been established for the latest incident.

The market secretary said investigations are ongoing to determine what triggered the fire, adding that further updates would be provided once findings are concluded.
