The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reaffirmed that Morocco will host the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), dismissing rumours that the North African nation might withdraw from staging the tournament.
Gatekeepers News reports that there had been speculation that Morocco could pull out, with South Africa reportedly on standby to step in. However, CAF President Patrice Motsepe poured cold water on the claims while speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Friday.
Motsepe also confirmed that the dates for the WAFCON 2026 finals remain unchanged. The tournament will run from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
Morocco, which hosted the last two editions of the competition, will once again stage the continental showpiece.
The 2026 WAFCON will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic tickets to Brazil.
