Many people have reportedly been injured after multiple bomb explosions occurred in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that fhe blasts were reported on Monday evening shortly after the breaking of the Ramadan fast (iftar), causing panic among residents in different parts of the city. One of the explosions occurred at Maiduguri Monday Market area at about 7pm.
According to reports from a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, another explosion was said to have occurred near the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Eyewitnesses said the explosions triggered panic in the area as traders and residents fled the scene while emergency responders and security agencies moved in to assess the situation and assist victims. Some of the injured were reportedly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities were still working to determine the cause of the explosions and the number of casualties at the time of reporting. Security personnel were also said to have cordoned off affected areas while investigations continued.
Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, has experienced repeated attacks over the years due to insurgency in Nigeria’s north-east, although the city had seen relative calm in recent times before the latest incident.
