US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, saying the country risks catastrophic consequences if its leadership fails to reach an agreement with Washington.
Gatekeepers News reports that over the weekend, Trump said Tehran had until Tuesday at 8pm ET (1am WAT) to make what he described as a decisive move.
The US president also demanded that Iran fully reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to global shipping or face severe repercussions.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social, just hours before the deadline.
“However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?” he added.
“We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end.”
On Monday, Trump escalated tensions further, threatening to target Iran’s power plants and bridges if the country failed to comply.
Following the warning, multiple strikes were reported on bridges and railway lines across Iran. In Kashan, a city in central Iran, at least two people were reportedly killed and three others injured in an attack, according to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces had advised civilians in Iran to avoid train travel and stay away from railway infrastructure for 12 hours.
Reports also indicate that US forces struck Kharg Island, a key facility through which most of Iran’s oil exports pass.
Meanwhile, IRNA said Iran has rejected calls for a ceasefire, stressing the need for a permanent end to the conflict.
